We're thrilled to announce that the newly renovated barn at Newport's historic Samuel Durfee House has been honored with a Doris Duke Historic Preservation Award, presented by the Newport Restoration Foundation.
The 19th century barn, which was used for storage, rather than for housing animals, is a rare survivor in Newport's downtown core. Before it could be renovated, it required significant structural repairs to its foundation. Today, it provides cozy lodging to the bed-and-breakfast's owners, while maintaining its historic integrity.
